چکیده

A general method for brazing ceramics to metals using a compliant metallic foam as a buffer layer has been developed. Using stainless steel foams, bonds between alumina and 316 stainless steel with shear strengths up to 33 MPa have been achieved. The resultant ductility enhances the resistance of the joint to thermal cycling; AlN-Inconel 600 bonds exhibited good thermal shock resistance. Aluminastainless steel bonds withstood more that 60 thermal cycles between 200 to 800°C in air.

Density-Graded Cellular Aluminum

Conventional metallic foam processing seeks to maximize uniformity in pore size, relative density, and other aspects of foam structure in order to minimize property variation associated with the statistical nature of foams, and thereby increase their reliability in service. However, property uniformity is in many cases an inefficient approach to meeting overall design criteria, as demonstrated ...

Porous Metals and Metallic Foams: Current Status and Recent Developments

Cellular metals and metallic foams are metals with pores deliberately integrated in their structure. The terms cellular metals or porous metals are general expressions referring to metals having large volume of porosities, while the terms foamed metal or metallic foams applies to porous metals produced with processes where foaming take place. Besides, the term metal sponge refers to highly poro...

Porous Metals and Metal Foams Made from Powders

Porous materials are found in natural structures such as wood, bone, coral, cork and sponge and are synonymous with strong and lightweight structures. It is not surprising that manmade porous materials have followed and those made from polymers and ceramics have been widely exploited. The commercialisation of porous metals has lagged somewhat behind, but has received a boost following a surge i...

Combustion joining of refractory materials

This paper overviews heterogeneous exothermic reactive systems as they apply to the joining of materials. Techniques that are investigated fall under two general schemes: so-called Volume Combustion Synthesis (VCS) and Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis (SHS). Within the VCS scheme, applications that are considered include Reactive Joining (RJ), Reactive Resistance Welding (RRW), and S...

Is the Ditio-Octonoate Monomer the Ideal for Adhesion to Precious Metals and their Alloys?

The use of metals in dentistry has great therapeutic advantages in many fields of dentistry, such as orthodontics, prostheses, conservative dentistry since its origins and more recently implantology [2]. Likewise, metals can be used on numerous and varied substrates: enamel, dentin, ceramics, resins or other metals [1]. Examples of adhesion of enamel or dentin to metals, orthodontic bands and b...
